It was so amazing to watch the election coverage last night on CNN!   McCain gave a gracious concession speech while Obama gave an inspiring acceptance speech.  Seeing so many people of all races in the crowd was beyond encouraging.  Like regular people, celebrities waited in the crowd to hear our president-elect speak.  Oprah Winfrey was included in the masses as well as Brad Pitt (I didn’t see him, I just heard the announcer include his name in the swarm of people).  

I have to admit, I’m crushing…and not on our boy Brad.  Our president-elect has such a beautiful smile.  Who will become his dentist Washington DC  practitioners are all probably wondering.  We had a mini election-coverage party at my condo last night and my friend Karen says whichever place Obama chooses to have his Washington DC dental services then that is the place where she’ll get her next job…hygienist, errand girl, it doesn’t matter! 

One place Karen will not need to get a job is with a Washington DC cosmetic dentist because everything about Barack’s smile is perfect.  I’ve said enough about my crush and his smile.  Next time I’ll discuss important issues like what an historic moment in American history this is…or how cute his children are!

Sometimes it’s hard to remember that everyone has different interests from you.  For instance, take my situation.  I love spending time with my horse, horseback riding, hanging out and working at the barn, etc.  My sister, on the other hand, is much more sophisticated and urban.

My sister surprised me this past year by taking up an interest in golf.  She took classes from a golf school and everything.  She did this not because she wanted a golf career, but because she was hoping it would help her in her own job as a business banker — I guess a lot of deals are finalized on the golf course, and she kind of has to play golf with her coworkers to be taken seriously at work.

It shows how different we are from one another — and we’re even more similar to each other than we are to most people!  I would never pursue golf instruction for a job, for one thing — I’m not a big fan of golf myself, and I wouldn’t let a job dictate to me what my hobbies should be.  But for my sister, it’s all tied up in her chances for success — and she’s a very driven person!

I have some of the best conversations when I’m sitting alone at a bar, airport or some other place where I can strike up a conversation with a stranger.  In this case, it was a gentleman on his way to Florida to give a presentation on Florida drug rehab.  I of course assumed he was a doctor and asked if he practiced back in FL or was writing a book or what.  He smiled and said he actually was on his way to speak to a group of teens about his recent stay at a Florida drug rehab center.  Wow!  I guess I’m really naive because this gentleman was in his 50’s, well-spoken, well-dressed and clearly quite educated (or at least spoke that way).  So I had to ask:  HE was in a treatment center?  Again he smiled and said that he had actually been in several Florida drug treatment centers over his lifetime and finally found one what worked for him.  I congratulated him on his cure; he quickly corrected me and said no one is ever cured, they simply learn to live with the addiction and manage the cravings so as not to relapse.  I had no idea.  We spoke a bit more before he left; I was definitely impressed.
