False Tale or Real Threat

It took Wendy Whittaker five years to compile enough stories from people that had gone fly fishing in GA. Her husband being the son of a travel director that dealt with the region, she would often hear stories about fly fishing, though neither she nor anyone in her immediate family did that. The legend of the Toccoa Monster didn’t appear in any history books, nor in any official news source. The tale had apparently been told by a Georgia fly fishing guide, but nobody knew where his story originated from. There were quite a few people out there that have heard his story, and perhaps some of them believe it.

This legend, as legends typically are, passed on through conversation as well as perceived as a possibility of existing in reality. Although Wendy or Val, the travel director, didn’t see it as a real threat, it was interesting. The story went like this. The monster, with 3 eyes and a tail that protruded from the back of its head, would catch fish and hold them to the fishing lines. That is how it would attack people on a trout fishing trip, but it wouldn’t kill anybody. It had a taste for wood and would eat the boats, leaving the people stuck in the cold water.

Everyone has Different Interests

Sometimes it’s hard to remember that everyone has different interests from you.  For instance, take my situation.  I love spending time with my horse, horseback riding, hanging out and working at the barn, etc.  My sister, on the other hand, is much more sophisticated and urban.

My sister surprised me this past year by taking up an interest in golf.  She took classes from a golf school and everything.  She did this not because she wanted a golf career, but because she was hoping it would help her in her own job as a business banker — I guess a lot of deals are finalized on the golf course, and she kind of has to play golf with her coworkers to be taken seriously at work.

It shows how different we are from one another — and we’re even more similar to each other than we are to most people!  I would never pursue golf instruction for a job, for one thing — I’m not a big fan of golf myself, and I wouldn’t let a job dictate to me what my hobbies should be.  But for my sister, it’s all tied up in her chances for success — and she’s a very driven person!

Airsoft Wars Build Friendships

My boyfriend was telling me the other day about how he and his roommates used to have airsoft wars. They all lived within the same dorm building and the wars were ongoing. You’d be sitting at your desk, doing your work, when all of a sudden someone would burst into the room and take aim. Immediately, you’d reach for your airsoft gun and start calling for your teammates to back you up.

Everyone had their favorite airsoft guns. Some people favored the kwa airsoft. Others liked the echo1 airsoft. Everyone had their own strategies and their own ideas about how to excel at the game. But each person followed the golden rule of always being there when his teammates called. They dropped whatever else they were doing to help out a fellow team member.

These games built up a kind of camaraderie among the group that would have probably taken many more months to build up if they hadn’t  been playing these games. They established a commonality between everyone. They created a feeling of teamwork and loyalty and commitment to the group. Sure, they were divided during game play. But if an enemy had attacked their airsoft soil, they all would’ve turned to defend one another.
